World Renowned Artist Dale Chihuly to Sponsor World Superyacht Awards

As a life-long yachting enthusiast, acclaimed U.S artist Dale Chihuly is delighted to associate with Boat International Media for the superyacht industry's most prestigious and anticipated prize-giving, the World Superyacht Awards, to be held at London's Guildhall on Saturday 16th May 2009.

In recognition of the greatest yachts sailing the seas, Dale Chihuly has created two unique artworks which will be presented during the World Superyacht Awards to the winners of the Motor Yacht and Sailing Yacht of the Year Awards. The artworks are based on Chihuly's Venetian series of hand-blown glass, with blue and green highlights reminiscent of water and the ocean. The mirrored surface of the artwork vessels embodies a tremendous luminosity, and reflects the excellence of each owner, crew member and designer being celebrated.

Dale Chihuly has led the avant-garde in the development of glass as a fine art and has created many well-known works, among them the Isola di San Giacomo In Palude (pictured).

"Living in the Pacific Northwest, water and yachts have had a significant impact in my life.  My studio called "the Boathouse" is located on the shores of Lake Union in Seattle, Washington, and has enabled me to enjoy several passions - my art, the water and yachting.  It is a great honor and a privilege for me to present two of my artworks to those who are on the cutting edge of the superyacht industry," Chihuly says.

Chihuly's work is included in over two hundred museum collections worldwide and he has been the recipient of many awards, including eight honorary doctorates and two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts.
