Boat International Media announces acquisition of the Malcolm Wood (MJW) Yacht Databases

Boat International Media is pleased to announce the acquisition of the MJW Yacht Databases.

The MJW Yacht Databases are the most comprehensive and accurate databases for the superyacht industry in existence having been developed and painstakingly maintained by Malcolm Wood over the last twenty five years.

The databases cover superyachts 24 metres and above, tracking the current fleet; yachts on order and under construction; as well as those no longer in service. With over 125 fields on over 9,000 yachts, key information includes vessel types, current & former names, classification, dimensions, tonnages, capacities, shipyard and construction information, naval architect and designers, engine and mechanical details, refit and rebuild information, special features and ownership data.

The databases have been used by many of the industry's leading companies including builders; brokers; blue chip companies in the financial and insurance sector; professional bodies; and government authorities.

Malcolm Wood will work with Boat International Media on incorporating the MJW Yachts Databases into the new 'Boat International Superyacht Industry Database', a structured relational database, along with a database for marina's capable of berthing superyachts around the world. Additionally, work is commencing on building a database of local businesses servicing superyachts as recommended by captains and crew.

The new 'Superyacht Industry Database' will be maintained by a team of industry experts and form the platform for Boat International Media's digital products and services due to be launched later this year. Malcolm Wood will also continue to provide consultancy services to the industry on behalf of Boat International Media.

Tony Harris, CEO of Boat International Media said: "This acquisition demonstrates Boat International Media's serious intent to provide the market with independent and accurate data via our web based platform." On the purchase, Tony commented, "Malcolm Wood's knowledge of this industry spans 25 years, he alone has accurately tracked and detailed the growth of yachts over that time and his database is a priceless asset."
