Presenting the Finalists of the Young Designer of the Year Award 2012

On 28 May at the offices of Camper & Nicholsons International in London, a jury comprised of the world’s leading superyacht designers met to judge the entries for the Young Designer of the Year Award 2012.

Students of design and recent graduates had been called upon to enter the competition, which has in recent years uncovered some of the industry’s most exciting and innovative creative talents. Entries were submitted by talented youngsters from all corners of the globe, including the U.S, New Zealand, Europe, Indonesia and Russia.

Twenty-one submissions were deemed to have met the entry requirements, submitted all the required materials and complied with the detailed design brief set by the chairman of the judges, Roger-Lean Vercoe. Of these entries, fourteen front-runners were shortlisted by a subcommittee and put forward for a second round of judging by the expert panel.

Each entry was scrutinized in meticulous detail by the judges who, after much deliberation, selected five finalists and the overall winner. The Jury would like to congratulate all finalists for their exceptional efforts.

The Young Designer of the Year Award 2012 Finalists are:

The Prizes
The winner will receive €5,000 prize money and all finalists will be invited to the ShowBoats Design Awards gala evening at the Monaco Opera House on 22 June, where the winning designer will be announced in front of an audience of the industry’s most influential players.  Tickets for the gala evening are still available and can be purchased online by clicking here.

Additionally, the winner and the top five competition finalists will be offered complimentary access to the two-day Superyacht Design Symposium in Miami, Florida, taking place 23 & 24 October, and an all-expenses paid trip to visit Lürssen shipyards in Bremen and Rendsburg, Germany.
