First wave of entries for Asia Superyacht Rendezvous

November 25, 2010

Motor and sail superyachts will be streaming into Phuket from the Mediterranean and other international seas for the prestigious Asia Superyacht Rendezvous, taking place 16-18 December 2010.

The first wave of superyachts confirmed include: the 50m Perseus built by Perini Navi in 2001; the 42m Maverick II, built by Sterling in 1988; the 57m Montigne built by Aegean Yachts in 2009; the 40.3m My Lady Arraya built by Oceanfast in 1990 and based in Thailand; the 36.07m Vie Sans Soucis built by Kings Yachts in Taiwan; the 74m Silver Zwei built by Hanseatic Marine in 2009; the 30m Asia built in 1997 by Paul Johnson; and the 49.7m Silolona of Indonesia, a traditional wooden Phinisi schooner hand-built in 2004 by Konjo craftsmen from South Sulawesi.

The superyacht Silolona will welcome Asia Superyacht Rendezvous guests aboard for the opening Sunset Cocktail Party on quiet Nai Harn Bay. The following day's first race will have sailing vessels accompanied by motor yachts on a course to Pansea Bay, with a second race day course around Surin Bay set by renowned Race Director, Andy Dowden.

Captain Charles Dwyer of Yanneke Too comments: "2009 was the most successful sailing event the Asia Superyacht Rendezvous has had to date. The boats were evenly matched and the crew worked as well as I have seen in any event. The sight of the superyachts sailing within a few boat lengths of each other was truly spectacular. It was superyacht racing at its best and we're looking for more or the same, and better, in 2010!"

Owners and captains seeking to extend their sunny South East Asia holiday will be rewarded with a spectacular, distinctly different cruising experience on Thailand's Andaman coast. This up and coming yachting region offers much diversity and adventure, with more than 100 islands to explore, fascinating marine life, intriguing historical legacies and crystal waters.

The Asia Superyacht Rendezvous will once again be headquartered at the luxury Host Hotel, The Surin, Phuket (formerly The Chedi, Phuket) at Pansea Bay. The allure of Surin, affording complete privacy in an exotic Asian destination makes it a perfect venue for the Rendezvous social events which include The Challenge model boat building contest, the Rolling Stock Crew Party and the VIP Boat International Media Gala Dinner for owners and their personal guests.
